about 83% of that was traders betting on prices going up.

Bitcoin slipped below $80,000 to about $79,146, its lowest level since September 18, before bouncing. It also lost its 50-day average near $81,700, a level that had held for roughly two months. Ether fell to about $2,289 and Solana dropped under $99. Once $80,000 broke, forced selling from leveraged longs fed on itself, and in one hour alone more than $200 million in positions were wiped out.

The trigger was the Middle East again. Reports that the U.S. is evacuating personnel across the region on threats of Iranian attacks hit a market that was already shaky after a week of $635.6 million in reported outflows from U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs. As of this morning, bitcoin is back near $80,360.

Next week brings the Fed meeting on Oct 27-28 and September PCE inflation data on Oct 29, with Brent crude at $116.72 keeping inflation fears alive.

A quick leverage check before you trade this week:

  1. Know your liquidation price before you enter, not after. If you can't say it out loud, the position is too big.
  2. Higher leverage means a smaller move wipes you out. At 10x, a 10% drop can end the trade.
  3. Weekend and overnight liquidity is thin, so moves through key levels can be faster and sharper.
  4. Use a stop you set yourself, well before the exchange's liquidation point, so you choose your exit instead of the exchange.

That's why TradeShield puts risk limits and protection first, so one bad hour doesn't wipe out a good month.

Stay sharp out there.
